Guys,
A lot of you probably haven't seen my design close-up, so I decided to just make a presentation to show the shoe closer-up.

Here's the inspiration/development of the shoe. Basically, the idea was that big guys are changing from pure power players to more agile athletic guys. With that in mind, the shoe had to ADAPT to the new style of game. I made the adaptation connection to evolution, and I got a lot of my design cues from the Finch, which is one of the first animals Darwin found to support his theory of evolution. I also got other cues for the shoe from the honey-comb like organization of tissue within your bones, and the straps are inspired by the closure system on microwaves.

That purple and grey one is a hot colorway :) I would have been really tempted to use that as the final submission.

Well, I would've done a toe-up view, but I was sort of running short on time, and I figured I had already communicated what was there with my 3/4 of the top part of the shoe.
I was REALLY close to using that purple/grey color as the final one, but I decided the shoe needed some more life to it, so I went back and redesigned the shoe a little bit, and then I ended up using the yellow color as a reference to the color of the finch.

Youre right Ben. The updated version does have more "life" to it. Good job dude, but it would be interesting to see the final version in that purple colorway! |

I have an exciting story I think you guys might be interested in...I don't mean to show off, but I think you'll like to hear it.
Last night, Dwayne Edwards gave me a call and asked if a would be available in 15-20 minutes to take a call from SOMEONE who would like to congratulate me. I had no idea who it would be, so I was pretty nervous. I waited for around an hour, but it was well worth the wait, because when I answered the phone I heard..."Hey Ben it's Melo"
Yes! THE Melo! Carmelo Anthony! He congratulated me, and then asked me a few questions on my design. He also suggested that I combine on all his sig-shoes thus far into one shoe, so that's what I'm working on right now. |

Ben:
I saw your Melo Remix shoe last night, and it is quite good. Very nice.
Sorry we took so long with Melo and made you wait, but he was very impressed with your Force shoe from the competition. |

Justin: No worries on the wait...it made the actual call that much more climactic.
Rich: Thanks very much man! I'll post my Melo concept once I finish everything for it. |

Ben - Keep Rocking! That is awesome. Like many people said before, makes me wish they had this around when I was in school, (way back in the day, HAHA!). I look forward to seeing your designs and progress and maybe one day I will be wearing one of YOUR designs! |

Ben & Juan, congratulations to both of you. Outstanding work. It's very cool to see you guys reap rewards from all your work. I know both of you have natural talent and a lot of passion, and therefore probably don't feel like you worked that hard. But you've gotten a taste of what it's like to work in a field you love. I hope this experience serves as motivation for you chase your dreams even further, whether it's being a footwear designer or not. DREAM BIG, young men, and don't settle for less. |
