Wayne, maybe you are right...on my side I was thinking to post some final feedback (aside of little comments here or there)...but each day we have some more hot shoes added...so I'm just delaying the post until the final design will be posted...

Beside that i believe that the level of this month is so hi that comments are more on the like/dislike side, because each one's work is very good.

About Brett's design, I think the tons of comments are due to the philosophical question regarding the feasibility of concepts...this is still a painful discussion theme between designers, so it's natural people take fire with it.

That said, I also think that below 6 rating for Sotiris design is ridiculous...to me concept + presentation put it at least at a level of 7.
Sometimes I really doubt some people rates designs just looking at thumbnails...

Wayne I completely respect what you are saying and I say its debatable. One thing I have always respected about KG is that people give response to people that ask questions.

I don't feel that anyone is being ignored by any means (maybe I am wrong?) But if someone has a general question about their design I feel like it is usually answered. And its usually answered in depth. Thats just my opinion.

Pietro: I have no problem with you (or anyone else) posting brief comments in opposed to long depth comments right away. Understandably, we all have varying obligations and time. I was just concerned that some were being treated differently than others.

Yes. I agree that some of the scores are ridiculous...but the same is true EVERY month. So, at least it's consistent. kinda. :)

I still think the scoring syem needs to be changed. It might not be all that feasible but I would like to see 3 scoring categories. One score for concept...one for rendering...one for functionality. The final score would be an average of the three.

Brett: Hmmm. Good point. I think that if someone reallllllly wanted to improve, they would ask for help. That doesn't seem to happen all that often. But, on the other hand..perhaps they don't know what to ask? I dunno.

Giants lost. :(

Critiques/praises are always welcome. Without them, one would never improve. There wouldn't be a discussion here w/out them. Just keep in mind it isn't personal, it is someone's opinion. It is up to the individual to decide how to deal with critics and use them to improve.

Also, please don't forget this particular theme is Freestyle. "any way you like it". If there is any time to explore one's creative juices and be "out there" with a concept, this would be it.

Finally, next year, how everyone rate will be available for viewing. There will also be a comment section per rating submitted to enter justification for the ratings if the rater want. Basically, anyone will be able to see how you've rated so your credibility is at stake!

Brett, I thought the rendering of your shoe was sick before I found out it was photoshop, now that I know its photoshop its even sicker. I think the design is solid, nice form and lines, and really flows well with the foot.

Tony your designs are always polished to me. A lot of things have been done to shoes but its the details and ideas that take it to the next level. And you have them both. What could be a plain shoe, and I mean this as a compliment, you take to the next level and make it your own with the details.

Even though this is a womans shoe I would rock it. I don't know if that is good or bad.

To me this contest is a toss up between Tony and Brett. I know that you guys all talk about the idea behind the shoe, and I understand the importance of that as being number one priority, form, materials and details speak volumes to me. They catch my eye, then its the idea that holds my attention. Its like a pretty girl she will catch your eye from afar but if there is no substance to her, you are going to get bored very quick. but once you find out that girl has looks and personality then its "go" time.

Admin: Great idea! I think we need more critiques in general.

..the scores seem really brutal this month. It seems to me that people are voting based on who they think should "win" vs. just looking at each entry as an individual and letting the score average out to what it is.

Britt: Wow, thanks man. That's a helluva compliment.

Wayne: Don't you hate when you tivo the game so you can watch it later and you are trying to avoid seeing who won so you can watch it like it's really happening, but then you log on to KG and see "Giants lost :( ".....LOL. That sucks. Also, I think the best get picked on/scrutinized more because we can all see how close the work is to being impeccable and we really want to see them get over that final hump!

I don't recall who said it, (was it WR?) but the multiple criteria score is a GREAT idea that admin should really consider!

I think this is one of the most interesting months in all levels..nice designs from everyone,well-aimed comments n some questionable subjects to discuss..
Pietro, thanks for moral support n estimate about my concept but after all i understand n feel your point behind your comments..it just happen to be me.Don't want anyone to take this as a personal excuse or think that i m feeling wronged..for me the thing that feeling part of this community n help me to improve my skills is more important than numbers n points but i've also noticed often that sometimes rating is very fictitious for some participants in relation to the design quality level, functionality, innovation n time each one has spent for each concept..
To be honest i always attempt friends(like we all have)anytime i'm finalist to vote for me,trying to be fair to the game n mostly to have a more objective opinion n rating about my concept but sometimes don't know where this starts or ends for everyone(I'm not implying anything to anyone personally)..Please don't let me be misunderstood,it's just a deposit of thoughts that i think we all have in the back of the mind..In that point don't know if,simultaneously with people's voting,an expert team on shoe design n technique could have influence on the final results according to-as Wayne said-concept,rendering,functionality.
Another thing i'd like to point out is that sometimes the time distance from the first to the last finalist is so big-especially when the finalists are many- that unfortunately the last ones in order lose some of people's vote that haven't visit the site for long time. It's sure that appearing one submission almost every day keeping all of us in tune n agony for the final result but in my opinion would be more fair for all finalists to share the same time on exhibit their concepts n people to vote at once for all so we can have a more-in real time-result..
Congrats to all finalists..really nice work from everyone..peace

Tony: I kinda wanted the ponies to win last night. I felt a little bad for Peyton when they showed him sitting on the bench. He looked like his puppy got ran over. But in actuality, it didn't. At least I don't think.

AND whatever it is the packers are packing( cheese?)...stinks. Early playoff exit for those guys.

Ryka update? ummm, I guess when production samples start rolling in I'll do a mini show and tell...so early next year. I don't have anything droppin until spring 09.

ok. back to freesytle stuff. sorry.

LOL...I have never actually thought about what they might be "Packing". But with the Vickings it musta been heat cuz they killed those fools! I can guarantee you they got more game than the Giants though ;)...only time will tell homie!

Soritis: Several of us have shared your sentiments outside of the board. The scoring is strange this month, but you have the right attitude to learn and build from the comments, rather than live or die by your score. In the end it's all for fun right?

i just checked after a few days away from kicksguide, there was quite a bit of reading to catch up with peoples comments.

Admin: great idea for next year, I think that these changes will help everybody learn and grow as designers. It will also make us think longer on how we rate the other shoes.

sotiris: I def agree with your comments, I know that i have thought the same thing.

brett: I got to say sweet rendering. How are you enjoying your internship at NB. I loved it when i was there, great people. (i interned with Kids, walking, and team sports)

tony: I am really liking how you have continued with the vitus theme. I wouldnt be suprised if you started to see others submitting Vitus designs, instead of nike, in future competitions. you have done a great job with this womens shoe in not making it overly feminine which can be delicate balance. Im still skeptical about people needing to change the pressure in the midsole on the fly. I think its great to be able to have different settings, but who needs to change these settings mid-stride. But that being said, I am glad that you have pushed the envelope and made us all think about the possibility.

Ryan: we could use a design from you to round out these competitions.

Yuanzheng I hate to do this too you man but your going to have to wait another day. I am mad busy here at work. But don't get too excited; I don't want to dissappoint you. All my renderings are just using the paint brush and creating my own textures in illustrator or scanning them in and making them a pattern. If I didn't merge my layers as I went along my renderings would be like 200+ layers easily.

Nick: I enjoy it here. I am in AP and staying quite busy and enjoying the people. Lawrence isn't the most attractive area though. lol. But none the less it is fun and a great learning process. Everybody is young which is nice.

Thanks Edgar!

Your design is very cool...as always it seems like you can put a hand into the pc screen and really bring the shoe out of it!
The design is simple but sophisticated thanks to the nice pattern and nice details, asymmetrical collar is jordanesque too, well done!
I can see a couple of cool details also on the flat part of the outsole...maybe a single small tortuga pattern with the jumpman on the side, positive vs negative.

For my point of view the rating system has to be definitely rethink as WR already mentioned it. (who knows it'll maybe happens with the new: logo,website... ), especially when we see how serious become this monthly theme and that more and more people seems to spend a lot of times on it, everybody deserves to be more honestly and seriously judged/rated.

possibly if a personalized kg comes along, like has been mentioned, that will give way to more pure interaction and feedback, etc, if each shoe entered had its own thread. that might be a bit more effective than having one thread for 15 different shoes. and i really really hope edgar didn't submit the tortuga for freestyle, because if that didn't make the finals, i expect to see cosmic implosions and cats turning inside-out very soon. I've seen this trend of vote manipulation going on since I found this website a year or so ago.... Truly, it’s really nothing new. Some people will do whatever it takes to win. Yah-this month is crazier than normal, but I always like to go back to the “Rules” of when submitting an entry and remember what this site is really about- "Remember that respect is earned, not stolen. BE TRUE TO THE GAME!" Yes, we all have put a lot of time into our entries, but to me this site is more about learning- and growing as designers than winning. The deserving may OR might not win in the votes this month. But, those who have done well will gain the respect of those who are true to what this web-site is trying to accomplish. Everyone has their own preferences, but I personally give out my respect my winner- Brett Golliff! Brett you pushed the bar to crazy heights. Yes, you did take some slack for the "functionality" of your design, but like it was said-that can be easily fixed! Plus, your Photoshop rendering is sooooo good that it has tricked people into thinking that you used a 3-D program. Mad Props!

P.S. --Edgar Vergara- You have been one of my top fav designers since I came across kicksguide. I love Your Tortuga! The print is Bangin.' Your design is simple- yet elegant-fashionable-fresh……I could go on but it is Hotness! Haha -Cherry!!!!

Jonathan thank you for the compliments. I worked really hard on those renderings. During college I hated 3/d programs so much (I realize their value and I can use them) but I told my teachers I would do my best to convince that I could fool their eye with a good photoshop rendering. Its much more expressive in my eyes.

P.S. I am not going to be around for a little over a week. So everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving and also good luck during the rest of the competition.

Regarding the ratings, keep in mind, there are automated jobs to catch and eliminate those who are tampering/cheating. So yes, you will see scores spikes and drops, but in the end, it will even itself out and the cheaters will end up wasting both their time, account and creditbility.

Hey Pietro, your imaginary boss is right, it looks even better now.. but one more thing maybe; that red stitching looks like its made out of neon light.. a bit too bright..?? But I'm nitpicking of course..
Saw your shoe ad in SLAM! Did you play in the shoes already? ciao. PEP
oh and Edgar: that rendering does like amazing, your shoes look more natural every time, and the designs get better and better too..! If you send this in for next months theme the kicksguide logo might just become a turtle shell soon..

Pep!

Yeah...the boss is very picky ;)...anyway the rendering was thought for a different colorway, so i had to re-adjust a few layers, and i'm still not happy even with the enlighted part of leather over lateral malleoli, it needs to be rotated a bit down...

It's almost a whole year I'm playing in Hops shoes...this evening I've played a full game wearing lo-cuts, and I had no stability problems, very nice ride...which could mean 2 things: 1) medial wing works really very well; 2) 35 years of age over my legs have reduced a bit my power...I think reason 1) is the most true, since I'm still an ATHLETE ;)

Vents! Olè!
Thanks a lot for your words! I think Hops look even better in person ;)
It's a long time i don't hear from you...Are you already into the industry?

LENS FLARE TO YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Brett! I really like your concept and the execution is superb too!!! Freeeeeesstyle! As opposed to what DE said about the ankle collar in the back view, I like it so thin, it makes me think like the shoe is in the "OFF" position, and it turns "ON" only when you put your foot into it. My idea about your anatomy is more like you have a reverse anatomy; lycra-skin, graphite-bones, foamposite-tendons...anyway good thought.

Jean Claude: yeah, NGÜ is a super lightweight basketball shoe.

Tony: good job on the site, mister. Even the lies are well crafted! "extremely ambitious"? ok. your ambition is marginal at best, pally :)

Who are you targeting with the site? Design directors? HR?

I have coroflot but I don't know if that's impressive enough(for prospective employers). any thoughts on that?

Thank you guys for the comments on the site but I should have posted it in the general forum. I think this should be more focused on the work Brett has done this month and congratulating him. My bad Brett for posting that here and interrupting your victory. I just posted it up here since this was the most current topic. If you would like to comment on the site, please reply in the general discussion. Again, Great job, Brett!!!

Tony no worries on the website posting. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet (I am sure it is great). I will tomorrow when I am back at the office.

Brett, congrats on the win, man. I'm glad you won, despite that your shoe has no closure system. Aside from that, it's a very nice design, and affirmation for all the hard work you've put in recently---not just on this shoe but others too.

Man! I´m surprised with your works, people, but at the same time worried... i mean, you all are doing great visual designs, but as a shoes people (i´m already a modelist and designer in MEXICO) i know most of them are imposible to realize technically. Just as a positive comment please introduce yourselves in this wondefull world of shoes manufacturing and easily you´ll become the future of the industry Love. Excuse my english iod_kahn@yahoo.com
