2007 Artist Series Contest (Sept): NBA Dynasty
Can't wait for the new NBA season to start? How about a look back at the Legends of the game? Who were the NBA Dynasties? The Celtics, Lakers, Bulls or the current day Spurs? Will Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce form a new Green Dynasty of their own? Create a shoe that best portray the dynasties of the NBA over the years. DO NOT slap on a swoosh or any other existing brand to the shoe. Be creative and construct your own!
Due Date: 09/23/07

Prolly a Nike Jordan shoe or one of those players. Not really a special theme this time.

I'm probably speaking for all the 30-somethings around here by saying that this theme makes me salivate.

I have questions though:

Are designers supposed to pick one dynasty and stick with it?

...or is it supposed to be 1 design in 3 different colorways?

...or should/can designers submit three different designs on one 800 x 600 pixel image?

Are branded shoe designs disqualified?

No excisting team logo's and brand logo's? or only no excisting brands of shoes?

Shoes can be branded, just not by obvious existing logos like Nike/Adidas/Rbk..etc. The term dynasty is a theme, you can spin it any way your creativity takes you.

no "Obvious logos" seems very subjective. This theme is still somewhat vague IMO. I say just do your interpretation of it and let it fly guys.

Thanks Ryan. I was inspired recently by classic NBA caricatures on tshirts I used to wear in the early 90's. Thought I'd give it a try and bring the style back.

wayne: Hubert Davis had some good years for the Knicks and a decent stint with my Raptors, but I'm going to have to do a Charles Oakley caricature before I ever attempt do a Hubert Davis. Gotta pay respect to the Oak.

I'm actually on the graphic design side of things. Not exactly in the footwear side.

Here's my final illustration of the 80's era Lakers. There's CAP, Magic, Big Game James, AC Green (with the jheri curl) and Byron Scott. I wanted to add Michael Cooper but I elected to go with five players.
