General Discussion, Vol. 2 This is where we cover a slightly wider range of topics and allow the Artist Series threads to remain focused on the respective competitions. Let's keep it related in some way to sneakers or the KG community... i.e. a new design rendering, a recent shoe purchase, a sighting of an interesting shoe, an encounter with a notable person in the sneaker world, or if you've been around here for a while, anything you've done which other KGers would find interesting.

question...is k-swiss a legitimate parkour company these days, or are they just trying to maintain an edge by going all "we're cool enough for freerunners, but still classy enough for centre court"? cool ads, regardless...

Ryan: I'm watching a friendly basketball game , Serbia vs Australia. Australian team has "PEAK" as technical partner...An aussie player is wearing a white/grey shoe that could be your design...I will better investigate.
Have you contacted them?
1:05:00 PM Friday, August 03, 2007
RYAN: Man, if you keep producing these hot designs for other companies, Wal-Mart is going to get mad! Isn't it some kind of breach-of-contract to design for 2 companies at the same time!
BEN A-K: Once again, nice work. Are you trying to make me look bad by showing me up!? J/K. That is really nice work. Your drawing skills are obviously improving, which is something I value highly, and it is nice to see that you took the time to revisit it and refine it. That s important, because there is pretty much never going to be a time when you finish a design, and it is done. We are always reworking it and reworking it. I do think it would be a bit restrictive around the ankle, though. But, hey, that's what pattern trials and fit tests are for! Also, it looks like you have 5 dots on the end of the strap. You couldn't do that on a non-Nike shoe because of the Alpha Project 5 dots that Nike used to use alot and still shows up from time to time.
Good job with the alternate views as well, because we all know that even though WE can see what is going on in our heads, MARKETING can't. That's why they are in marketing, LOL. Sorry, I had to take that little shot at marketing. (Disclaimer: our marketing is really quite good.)
1:15:00 PM Friday, August 03, 2007
Here is something for you designers to try out.
Your mission should you choose to accept it:
1. Design a shoe, or any product for that matter.
2. When finished, show it around to friends and family and/or anyone you think knows anything about the product you designed.
3. Gather their feedback, and rework the design accordingly.
(It is important to remember that i this step you don't have to change everything, if there are some parts you think are necessary and are important to the design, you can fight for them to stay, but you have to be able to defend those parts.)
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the desired design is reached. It should be something that keeps your design intent but still solves the intended problem, while being pleasing to your "focus group."
This should give you a little taste of how the design and marketing teams work together, and the process of reworking the design and tweaking it until the desired product is created. It would also be nice to see documentation of the different feedback gathered from friends and family and how you used or didn't use it. This is, of course, not mandatory, but just a little something I think would be a valuable experience for aspiring footwear designers. If you can show that you can take feedback, and execute against it, the powers that be will definately like that. Trust me.

Problem if you don't have a family or friend who got taste, you got a big problem. My whole msn list of 50 person only 1 is a good designer.
3:27:00 PM Friday, August 03, 2007
Not necessarily. Do you think every kid in the focus groups we conduct has "taste" or a good fashion sense. Almost none of them are going to be good designers, or even want to be for that matter.
It's all about taking the feedback and filtering it out. You never know where a good nugget of knowledge will come from. You can also talk to anyone who plays sports. They don't have to be super athletes, either, just people who can provide feedback.

4:00:00 PM Friday, August 03, 2007
Problem I know most people who arent designers only say things like or hate it with no helping comment on what parts could be improved. Other designers give better feedback then not designers.
9:00:00 AM Saturday, August 04, 2007
Well great tip Justin, Chung, its gonna be youraveerage person without a taste thats gonna buy the product so after all they are the ones who have to like it. No?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment, Justin! I'm currently working on another version of that shoe. Hopefully I can deal with the issues you brought up. I'll try to post up some sketches in this thread. I'm currently on vacation though, so it might be a while before I do.

so brian, what sort of shroud is around the ankle? it reminds me of something from the aj16 lows, where they had the magnetic convertable collar.

this was something i was working on this summer, and i haven't had a chance to enter it at all. any furthering suggestions?
6:03:00 PM Tuesday, August 07, 2007
Stephen, hmm Im liking the concept, using the flightposite again, cool. I think thats actualy a manufacturable shoe. Although one thing is the anle of the swoosh, dont think that looks too good. ANd doesnt look like something Nike would do. And another thing is placing a support panel or call it whatever under the arch of the foot, know which one I mean? I think thats unnecesarry and its just extra weight. Other then that good job!
Brian Moughty (378)
9:27:00 PM Tuesday, August 07, 2007
stephen- The ankle is similar to the XVI low...but more advanced..The cut is a lot higher and the material/build is stronger as it mimics and ankle sleeve...There is a closure system at top, and then can be flipped over, and folded down and closed again...It is for a court/street look...or just a player who wants more or less support..
10:04:00 AM Wednesday, August 08, 2007
that woulda been decent for the freestyle, brian...cool idea. and johnny, i got a few cues from the ajxiii, like the support pod on the lateral side of the midfoot, i know it worked for that shoe. but there's probably a good reason we haven't seen it since. 13 is my favourite jordan, though...

Medials sick, the lateral is maybew a bit too simple for my taste. But the Kobes are overall well designed, although the 3s aree really ugly on pics so far.
5:39:00 PM Tuesday, August 14, 2007
That Shaq shoe is kinda ugly whats that lasering on the side?
Barbu nice rendering, did you colour that with PS? The shape is off, toebox is too long and thin for a bball shoe and the midsole is much too thick.
Great stuff Tyler, the first one, upper left I really like, try drawing the whole shoe on a straight line, cause the outsoles shape is kinda wierd and a line helps you see hoe it needs to look. Otherwise good ideas, shape needs work usually. The one on the left 2nd from top is a really cool cleat! And I'm feelin the one with a 3/4 view. Great job, keep it up!

Does anyone else hate their sketches as soon as they scan them in? I just find mine so ugly on the computer! I'm not saying their perfect on paper at all, but I can't even look at them for too long on screen! (Check the image below). I know it's not quite Justin Taylor or Ryan Holler marker material, nowhere near! But on paper I'm happy with it, but once scanned I hate it!
I do have quite a cheap scanner. Is that anything to do with it? Or maybe I just need to take more care with my drawings. I was just wondering with your marker renderings, do you do anything to them or do you just scan them in and thats it?
11:47:00 PM Friday, August 24, 2007
Jason: the sketches look fine. I actually prefer ur b/w...the one where u added color is a little flat looking. I think it's the white highlight on the vamp..don't add so much.
6:42:00 AM Saturday, August 25, 2007
Ryan, man thats sick, those eye inspired, whatever those are, hot!
Jason, those aint bad, the swoosh looks a bit funny other then that nice stuff!
10:33:00 AM Sunday, August 26, 2007
for materials i usually either search for them in google image, scan that material if i have it, or i will actually create it in photoshop or illustrator.
12:35:00 AM Monday, August 27, 2007
Barbu, to echo Nick, Google image search is easiest.
HERE'S A QUICK PHOTOSHOP TEXTURE TUTORIAL...
When seeking a good texture (Canvas for instance) once you find one you like, get it into Photoshop and use either Brightness/Contrast or your Levels adjuster to give it a high black/white contrast (This will give you a wider range of control when you use it later, trust me). Just to be safe, create a "Textures and Patterns" folder somewhere in your files and save it there.
With your new texture file open in Photoshop, choose Edit > Define Pattern. Now, in your design rendering, after you create a design detail (make sure it's on its own layer), go to Layer > Layer Style > Pattern overlay. Your new texture will be among those in the image menu that appears. Choose it.
But before you click OK... If your rendering detail already had some level of shading and highlighting in it that you'd like to keep, play around with the "Blend Mode" menu in the open dialog box, particularly the Darken, Multiply, Color Burn, & Linear Burn options. This will keep your shading intact and still get the new texture effect.
Don't click OK yet... Now tinker with your Scale and Opacity settings to get the final appearance you want. (This is where the high contrast of the original texture is helpful.)
Working with all of these variables, once you get the look you desire, CLICK OK! You're done.

thanks ryan...i'll try that!

6:36:00 AM Tuesday, August 28, 2007
Hi guys,
Been following up the kicks in this site for quite sometime. I've been a big basketball shoe fan, but haven't bought any in the last 1 year (having problem rotating all the shoes for every game >_<). I also design shoes, but not sport shoes per say, more casual boots. Ideally I would love to design sport shoes, however since the company left sports shoe since the 80's...
Anyways, here's my submission, a rough design done in vector, and the actual shoe (w/ slight adjustment here and there). The shoe is a casual boot that is upgradeable to safety boots (yes, there's a steel toecap in there). Wanted to design a work shoe that's different with the ones already in the market. The upper and outsole are original design, outsole design conforms to the EN standard. I used Nubuck leather to give the shoe a more luxurious look, and nylon waterproof canvas for the variations. Since I'm still making them in small quantities, had to go with whatever I currently have.
Also saw a posting earlier in this thread about the shoe design software. I actually have a USM3 3D design software. The software actually uses an actual scanned shoelast model, and we just create the upper right on top of it. However since the program is a derivative from Crispin, there are a lot of designs that can't be done (like a big part with foam padding), I guess the software is ideal only for simple designs. The only advantage from the software is that it's simple and fast, and from the 3D model, I can convert it directly to a 2D shoe pattern..
Just in case that the designs I made should be posted elsewhere, sorry ;P

Venus Williams' new brand, "Eleven", is sold exclusively at Steve & Barrys. Shoes and apparel, all under $19.98. She's wearing the new gear in the U.S. Open which just started...

Very cool, Brian. Is that boot in retail? If so, go over to the "List of production shoes designed by KGers" thread, repost the pic and tell us where it's being sold. Nice work.
4:26:00 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2007
Those are actually pretty nice tennis shoes.
Brian Lee (37)
4:16:00 AM Thursday, August 30, 2007
Thanks Ryan, yeah it's in retail, only in 1 store hehehe. I'll repost it there. I could use the input, pretty subjective to my own designs.
12:33:00 PM Saturday, September 01, 2007
Those Venus Williams shoes are actually pretty nice. I like the mesh-material used on the overlay. Very clean.
I just wanted to post my revised And1 design to get comments before I did the completed renderings. A few things not noted in the rendering and sketch: There will be a slit in the shroud where the line is below the "AND1" text. As it's rendered now, it looks like there is a line sticking out, but I plan to make that a slit to allow natural flex and make the shroud less restraining.
1:07:00 PM Saturday, September 01, 2007
BA Keane: I think I might prefer the shoe if you lost the strap that covers the vamp. It justs seems like there are too many layers at this point. I'm guessing that u have MORE upper material under the shroud. yeah?
The medial side looks much cleaner and lighter...but even still a little heavy. Maybeeee...you could carve more out of the white material that wraps around the heel? And does it need to wrap around BOTH sides..the same way?
6:03:00 PM Saturday, September 01, 2007
Good points Wayne. Maybe I could combine the forefoot and ankle straps into one huge quarter piece. No straps or anything, just one perforated leather piece with lacing. Or maybe not. I'll just try some different things. It definitely needs to change though.
You're right about the medial. I just did that sketch quickly to show how the shroud would attach at the heel and to show the large shank. I don't think that big bulky heel piece would be necessary anyway, since you doesn't push off the medial side of your foot. Maybe I could eliminate it and have "AND1" in huge letters like on my other design.
Anyways, thanks for the comment Wayne. Hopefully I can get a few other comments so I can perfect this design.
9:42:00 AM Sunday, September 02, 2007
Nice stuff Be. I agree on Wayne and his pointers about, maybe too many lyewrs being on it, which will result in a hjeavy basketball shoe, which not too many people like. Try combinin the straps, that seem like a good idea, although I like how, one there's a strap that locks on the medial and one that locks on the lateral, that'll create great lockdown most likely. So maybe try to simplify and cant wait to see a full rendering!
Brian Lee (37)
4:52:00 AM Thursday, September 06, 2007
Ben:
Love the And1 design, looks nice.
What material is the shroud made of? Leather?
IMHO the shroud looks like it might actually hinder the ankle movement due the height? Unless the material is a stretchy fabric.. in which case just ignore what I've just typed.
Just make sure the production uses a good velcro.. Even the ones in Lebron 20.5.5. were weak, they'll get loose during wear..>_<
12:08:00 PM Thursday, September 06, 2007
The 20.5.5s were terrible velcroe wise, I actually took mine back and exchanged them for , I'm not sure what, 3s maybe, but they always became undone while playin ball.
5:20:00 PM Thursday, September 06, 2007
Thanks for the comment Brian! I was thinking the shroud would be made of leather, but maybe if I made the part of the shroud that covers the lacing system out of elastic, it would allow the foot to flex freely. Thanks for the idea!
I just want to clarify one thing that I think I didn't make clear. There is actually no upper materials under the shroud and strap, just a mesh booty and lacing system (the system would lace up the booty for a tight fit, and then the shroud and forefoot strap would provide more outer stability). I could see if there was more leather underneath that it would be very heavy and bulky shoe, but I don't think the shoe would be very heavy with just a booty underneath, do you guys?
Brian Lee (37)
6:21:00 AM Friday, September 07, 2007
Hi Ben, your welcome.
Personally I prefer a basketball shoe with a good ankle support, but then again since the trend seems to be pointing at a lower cut and more flexible materials.. oh well..perhaps the tight fit of the booty and shroud would help?
I thought that if you use leather for the shroud, wrinkles will be unavoidable and in worst case scenario.. the leather would eventually stretch. Unless you use suede leather (just to avoid wrinkles).. but even then it would eventually start to scuff.
Just booty underneath? Kinda reminded me to the Zoom Flight (got 1), I think that shoe was considered to be one of the lightest ball shoe to come out, Leather w/ booty underneath. So if you're doing the shoe the way you mentioned, it could be even lighter!
I designed a boot using the 2 locking mechanisms as well, however since it's a design for combat boots, I can easily place the strap right above the ankle. The 2 straps each have 2 rollers attached to them, so upon lacing up, the 2 straps will experience a greater pull, strapping tighter.
Weight wasn't the most important issue <grin>.

12:22:00 PM Thursday, September 13, 2007
Hmm that would be cool. It needs to be made lighter in weight, it cant race with Air max 360, zoom air etc. The responsivness isnt too good either if you ask me. Plus make the shox shoes a bit more slim.

Also if there's anything to C&C, feel free to do so.
9:54:00 AM Monday, September 17, 2007
If you want to do it with digital stuff, then you should use a program that works with vectors, to do the outlines, then finish it off with some PS. Or you can trace the lines in PS as well. But I'§M not good with that kinda stuff so hopefully someone else will help. BUt you can also do it by hand, which I prefer. A simple BIC pen is perfect for tracing. Then some good quality markers to add colours. Hmmm you migth also want to check proportions, cause those aint totally on point.
2:09:00 PM Tuesday, September 18, 2007
Yeah it doesnt work for me either. Check it out at michaelditullo.com, then tuorials I think and then click on proportions.

I have an idea for a new contest:
BMW Concept CS!
BMW's design language brings to mind: Edginess, Agression, Sharpness, Creases, Cutting Edge Design, Edges sharp enough to Cut, Avant Guarde, Exceptional Quality, Superior Performance, Flame Surfacing, Sculpted, and best of all(or worst of all if you hate BMW), BANGLE!
No matter what adjectives you use to describe BMW's style, it still amounts to one of the most forward-thinking independent brands of today's, and tomorrow's, automotive industry. Yes, Chris Bangle has revolutionized the auto giant for better (or worse if your one of the haters) and BMW's language has just reached a higher, more sophisticated dialect with the Shanghai Auto Show release of the super-sexy Concept CS!
There's been the Ferrari F430 contest, the Mercedes SL contest, now it's time for the BMW Concept CS contest! Bring BMW styling to the footwear industry - but your own 'twin kidneys' or 'bangle but' on a caliente shoe design!

I was just wondering if by any chance anyone had the Nike Air logo saved on their computer? I've been trying to find it on google but I can I only find the one without the "AIR" underneath the swoosh. Any help would be appreciated.

... So I went about it to do one myself. Just thought I'd show you guys. Just did one to put on my KG work I'm putting in my portfolio, just so everyone knows I didn't actually work for Nike etc. and clear any confusion lol.
Anyway tell me what you think. Very simple and quickly done. But it does the job...

Hi everybody,
two years after posting the original design here on Kicksguide, I'm really happy to introduce the Hops "Ol Skool" shoe.
Hops is a new company based in Australia and will be launched November 2007. Matt Kaipuke, the founder of Hops, contacted me 18 months ago to design their first shoe, and since he liked my Albatros concept very much, we decided to use that design.
As you can see below we have also developed a Lo cut version which is still a performance basketball shoe, but it also winks at casual customers.
The whole process has been amazing because both of us were starting from zero; along the way we had a lot of things to learn and little problems to solve. Our great passion and chinese manufactuer's experience allowed us to finish the job in best way.
I'm also very happy to say I've been able to follow my design without any compromise; so the shoe will feature, among other things, the "medial wing" which already was the performance cornerstone of my design back in 2005.
Oncourt, I'm pretty sure you will be impressed by the "ol skool"!
For more info visit: www.hops.net.au
I'm really looking forward on getting your feedback and questions.
6:12:00 PM Thursday, October 18, 2007
you got my support P! great design. how does it feel on your feet. and how does it feel seeing something you designed in your hand? congrats on a job well done.
6:42:00 PM Thursday, October 18, 2007
Thanks Luvell.
When I've got my first sample I was spechless, mixed emotions, from one side I was mad happy, from the sneakerhead/professional eye side a few things were not like I've thought. Early samples are like a preview of what the shoe will be, so since it was my first time I didn't know what to expect next.
Then along the development, design, materials and performances improved step by step reaching, and sometimes exceeding, my expectations, it was the best part of all!
On court I think they are very good. They are quite lightweight but stable and well cushioned. The outsole grip is very good and they shine in lateral moves ;)
Well, I'm the designer, so I can't say bad things...but the feedback we are having from our testers is very good too.
4:19:00 AM Friday, October 19, 2007
Thanks Jake!
...Melbourne is the place!
2 weeks and the shoes could be yours ;)
Subscribe the newsletter in the www.hops.net.au website and you will have more infos and see different colorways.

I am very proud of the way you have come up from posting on Niketalk (way back when!) to now seeing your designs manifested for people to wear and play in!!! Loving the design, it has some very unique and interesting elements. I am sure the best is yet to come for you my friend!

Hey All,
I just want to send my best wishes to anyone on this board either living in the San Diego area or have family and friends affected by the wildfires! I myself already had to evacuate from my home. To all affected, my best wishes to you all!
4:26:00 AM Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Rich that's got to be tough!
A few years ago I was ready to help evacuate my grandma's home because she lived close to a big river which reached highest water levels in 50 years. Thanks God, the water level growth stopped just a couple inches from the top of protection walls which are 10 yards far from her house!
I hope fire will stop too.
Best wishes to you all!
12:24:00 PM Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Rich- Our prayers are with you and your fam. Hopefully they will get it contained a bit better today. Is your house still ok?
6:25:00 PM Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Hey Rich, my prayers will be with you and everyone else affected in San Diego. Hope things get better.

Thanks prayers. Yeah my house is still ok, but its near the vicinity of the one fire the city is concerned about so at this time I still cant get back home.... Good thing is...I brought my sketchbook lol
11:03:00 PM Tuesday, October 23, 2007
yeah those fires are all in the news here (jerz) so it must be really serious, hopefully mother nature will co-operate & the fire can be contained...

Hey guys thanks again for the support. I was able to finally go home earlier today. No damage to my house...thank God. Lots of dust and debris as you can imagine. Guess this is where my clean up efforts start. Cant complain though, Im one of the luckier ones.
Sarah: Those kicks are somewhat appealing! haha
Pietro: Awesome job on getting the Albatros into production. Let us know where to get em bro!
8:30:00 AM Thursday, October 25, 2007
ALife does a lot of crazy collaborations with different sneakers...they likes their colours, that's for certain. sneakerfiles posts a lot of what comes out.
by the way, what's with the jordan x shadows coming out with the "23" on the side? makes em look phony.
3:17:00 PM Thursday, October 25, 2007
MJ dislikes anything having to do with the number 45 now. He doesn't like any products coming out with references to 45.
4:09:00 PM Thursday, October 25, 2007
So I guess there wont be Jordans till 45. Nice sneaker Sarah, lol, lovin those colours! Good to hear some good news Rich!

JT: anyone of the up and coming JB releases yours?
9:20:00 AM Friday, October 26, 2007
i get that part, justin...i just think the red and white 23 looks bad on the shadows. would look good on the 45 colorway, though...
Travis Peterson (123)
11:35:00 AM Saturday, October 27, 2007
Stephen I agree I think the 23 would look pretty cool on the Chicago colorway..which is one of the best Jordans of all time IMO.
10:22:00 PM Sunday, October 28, 2007
Rich: Not until January. The Flight 23 was the first one I did. It's nothing too special tech wise, just a cool take on some Jordan history. Then there will be a good influx of my stuff hitting the market. There are some in the works right now, though, where I really got to have some fun.
9:05:00 AM Monday, October 29, 2007
Rich, I just now read about your evacuation situation. Glad all is now relatively well for you.
Sarah, yes I saw those in a magazine recently. Can't remember which. Thought it was a good inspiration for a kids shoe. Possible choking hazzard too though (the eye attachments).
Been away for a while. Just returned from China. Man I love it over there.
3:26:00 PM Monday, October 29, 2007
justin, have you had a chance to see what people are saying about your stuff, like the flight 23's? i know a lot of artists don't care what the critics say, and some do. there's a post on sneakerfiles from july that talked about the f-23's.
2:39:00 AM Tuesday, October 30, 2007
RYAN: Glad you had a safe trip. Now that you are back, we need to get to that phone call we kept missing each other on right before you left.
STEPHEN: I have had a chance to hear some feedback on the shoe. I sat in on some focus groups where it was presented. The feedback is cool to hear, but at that time, the shoe was pretty much wrapped up, so there wasn't a chance for changes, unless the reception would have been overwhelmingly negative. Another VERY important part of the feedback we hear is what comes from the retailers who will carry the shoe. We have to listen to that as well. In the end, though, the designer can't get to caught up in the feedback because not every shoe is for everyone, and the entire team feels good about the shoe by that point, so you have to trust that they know what they are doing.
12:10:00 AM Thursday, November 01, 2007

Hey everyone! I've been sitting in the background of this site for a while now, while being busy with an internship, and now I'm done I thought I'd give a shout and congratulate everyone on this site for pushing and inspiring each other.
So much work and comments here have inspired me and thought I'd contribute back by posting a render I did from a doodle tonight.
It's no specific design, with no specific concept. I just wanted to have a stab at photoshop again after I've been away from it for so long. Couldn't find an F50 logo to PS into F60 for the toe, so if anyone has access to that I'd be really greatful.
:) Cheers.

Pietro, I don't agree with you. I have to say it's pretty original design. It's actually a updated version of a shoe they released last season.
3:59:00 PM Saturday, November 03, 2007
I like those shoes Big Ben got. Although nothin really new to the design looks a lot like his old And1s. However Francis' kicks, look much too bulky for a PG, look like something Shaq should be wearin.
4:56:00 PM Saturday, November 03, 2007
first thing i thought too, johnny...the strap from and1 chosen 1 is shadowed. i think he really liked those and1's, rumour says he used them past his original contract with them, and it may have prompted and1 to re-release them. gotta go with what works...

I see Adidas A3 Decade on the medial side and Nike Dual-D (what Dirk briefly wore) on the lateral side, with that line from Pietro's new shoe mixed on Steve Francis' new shoe.
He's washed up anyway. I hate him being back in my city. My friend's house is next to his and most people would think that's cool but I just don't like the dude.

How do you guys get the shoe designs to come out so clean, is there a special program for it? if so how much does it cost? Ive asked this several times but knowone has given me any information on it. Email me at w.a.y.n.e@hotmail.com. I would really appreciate it.
p.s. right now im using photoshop 7 and i can get the sketches looking descent. If there isn't a free program out there on shoe design, is there a way i can make them look nice on photoshop? Wayne.

It's curious how adidas is keeping same standard (and sometimes BORING) stripes at midfoot for baskeball shoes, but in other sports designers have a lot of freedom with 'em. Soccer boots usually employ stripes in a very creative way.

I have a couple of questions? First let me get this straight you guys design shoes, talk shoe design, go to school to design shoes and aside of having no nutritional benefits would for all intents and purposes eat and breath shoe design? I have in the past year made a definite desicion to design shoes, although i have been drawing shoes for 12yrs. So my real question is where do i start, which schools are highly recommended specificly for shoes? What should i look forward to in the industry? Why did it take me so long to find this web site? Ya know the basics.
I had the same thing, I´ve always loved shoe and I´ve always benn about shoe, eve since I know Michael Jordan. It´s not easy here in Austria, but I managed to get an internship with k1x in germany, through this site! I am now studying Industrial Design here in Vienna, which I truly love. it´s great and you learn so many things from all the design aspects, weather it´s a car or an steam iron:-)!
But I think the big boys like Ryan or Tony can help you out more on this one
Ryan do you remeber the first emails I wrote you?!
I hope to help, if you need any more questions from a guys that is doing the same as you, loving shoes, than just write me a mail!
cheers C.

This is not footwear but I wanted to share regardless. If you have an opinion, I would like to read it...even if you think the design sucks.
Thanks.
Portland Trailblazers
Logo: The wagon wheel, felling axe, and ox were used by pioneers as they made their way west....
Uniform: The color brown is introduced as a secondary color. It references the leather jackets worn by the pioneers.
4:39:00 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2007
NOt a huge fan of the Trailblazers, so I dont know much about, them, might be a dumb question, did you make that logo, or is it their new logo which I missed? If you made it, the red in the background should be modified, either color the whole background of the wheel red or nothin if you ask me.
6:14:00 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2007
Johnny: Yeah. I created the logo. I did try the logo without the red background...it just seemed to need more color so hence the red. I didn't color the whole wheel because I wanted it to look like the horizon/ frontier...kinda. Does that change your mind?

Hey im new to all this but ive been drawing shoes for awhile and I definately want to pursue it as a career. I am currently studying IDT so I am on my way...this is a pic of a concept for a Kevin Durant shoe I was just playing around with...any feedback is great.
3:50:00 PM Wednesday, November 21, 2007
MAybe a bit....lol. MAn that sketch is tight. Wish my marker skills where somewhere near that, but they aint...got any tips? Isnt the toebox a bit too big? I dont know about the sock thing, seems like a cool idea, although I think it would start to smell after a while, so it has to be nterchangable, nice stuff!
6:20:00 PM Wednesday, November 21, 2007
Johnny: come on man. IT'S A SOCK! of course it's interchangeable. As for markers skills, I don't have much either. half of that is photoshop. Like everyone else sez, just keep drawing.
Trevor: sorry if this is a stupid question but what is IDT? Industrial Design...technology?
Is there a story behind that Durrant shoe?
trevor milless (6)
8:50:00 PM Wednesday, November 21, 2007
Wayne: ya Industrial Design Tech.
and as far as the shoe goes i just see Durants game as quick so thats what i worked towards when i was messin around with this one (something kind of sleek) the grey areas are for breathability...i didnt spend alot of time on the shoe it was kind of spur of the moment

Hey Everybody
This is my first production Basketball shoe!!!
The Assassin
It's inspired by..Assassins. The "X's" represent the hash marks of victims picked off. The "O's" represent the target scope set on the next prey.
The upper is made of a rich full grain leather, full length neoprene inner bootie, memory foam in the ankle collar, and a new "sandwiched" midsole that I created...I can't go into detail yet. I couldn't get as wild as I wanted due to budget restraints...but hey, that's the biz.
This is my sample wear test pair, so this is not the final model. I'll be playing in them this weekend, I can't wait. So far they are VERY comfy and lightweight. I'm looking to launch these in February.
For those that don't know. I am the co-owner and creative director for a new shoe company called Gametime Athletics.

TREVOR: There you are, man. Nice to see you o the board. Nice work on the shoe. I can see that you worked on the proportion. It looked like you used the Nike Foamposite II as the template. Using another shoe as the template is a good idea, just make sure that you cahange up what you are working on enough so that it doesn't look like another version of the shoe from the template (unless it is intended to). I know you said that this was a quick one, so that probably factored into it. Otherwise though, it is a pretty clean design. Doing a shoe for an athlete does give you a good chance to tell a story about that athlete, so you could rethink it a little and include details that relate back to KD. For instance, and this is a cheap easy one, maybe the number of mesh windows on the side is a number that is significant to KD.
Nice to see you here. Make sure you take advantage of this resource.

Hi everyone !
First time I post on this terrific site..
I'm not a designer as skilled as you all, I'm living in France & have just drawn some ice hockey jerseys for a small sport manufacturer in my small city ;) . I'm a huge fan of your renderings and particulary the post of NGANGA VILLA ISMAEL in the Alphaproject theme.
I tried to get in touch with him but did not succeed unfortunally. I' looking for the drawing he has used for the ornaments on thoses very beautiful boots, that are also on the motorbikes of the team owned bye His Airness ;)
The reason why I need his help is that Id'd like to have a tattoo with theses particular curves. If somebody could help me I would be very gratefull to you.
9:12:00 PM Wednesday, December 05, 2007
does anyone know who designed the zoom kobe 3's? and maybe a weigh-in, rumour says lighter than the air g.o. lwp...which was a ridiculous 11.5oz...

I was wondering if anybody has bought the RBK Answer XI, I´m really thinking of buying it, I love the design and I just think the shoe looks great. First I thought like what not another boring RBK shoe but now, I love it!
So if anybody has a clue how the shoe feels like and how it is performance whise, please let me know!!1

I just found out that Chris Brown wore my Jezign joints on the American Music Awards last month. I was told by the company a few months ago that he and a couple other recording artists had requested several pairs, but this is the first time I've seen anyone wearing them onstage.
2:01:00 AM Monday, December 24, 2007
Sindri: No those are not mine. Octavio Lubrano did those. My first Jordan shoe, the Flight 23, will be coming out in January, though. I am super-excited.
Ryan: That is awesome to see a shoe you designed on the feet of a celebrity! Congrats!
I don't mean to try and one up you, but if anyone saw the recent sportscenter where MJ was practicing with the Bobcats, then you got a sneak peak at one of my designs. He was wearing a shoe called the PHLY, after his high school coach, Pop Herring. I couldn't beleive it when I saw it!It was the second shoe I designed for Jordan and will be out in the summer.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
10:47:00 PM Tuesday, December 25, 2007
so i saw couple of pairs of fake j's for the first time ever the other day at a goodwill. under glass, i might add. white/green xi's, with a chunk of checker-painted foam where the carbon fiber plate should be. ridiculously foul. the other was a pair of black/mocha/tan spiz'ikes. i never knew how damn cheap fakes actually were, having only seen them on feet and online. stinky. hope everyone is having a decent holiday or vacation or whatever. peace~~~~
10:57:00 PM Tuesday, December 25, 2007
btw, justin, those the fly high's you designed? know you said phly's, but i'm hazy...and to whomever designed the jordan enhancer, props. that is one cleean sneak.
Travis Peterson (123)
12:47:00 AM Wednesday, December 26, 2007
Yeah Stephen I agree--who did design the Enhancer? It reminds me vaguely of the Lebron IV in some respects but it has its own unique look--and the look is a very nice one. I may need these.
4:42:00 AM Friday, December 28, 2007
I've been working on this for the past week. It's obviously not a new design. It is a version of the Adidas Superstar based off of Lupe Fiasco's new cd "The Cool." One of the tracks is "superstar," so I find it only appropriate to do this shoe. The character in the picture is called "The Cool." If you haven't listened to this album I suggest you pick it up. (work done with pencils, markers, and the accessory "Paint".)
Hope you guys had a good Christmas. Let me know what you guys think. Is the whole Adidas Superstar and Lupe Fiasco "Superstar" thing too gimmicky?
