Admin - Question?
Is the voting affected by the time a design is posted? Meaning that if a design is posted first and you take the averages for how it was graded and compare them to a design that was posted later how would they compare? Example: shoe one posted first gets 100 votes where as a shoe that is posted last only gets 40 votes making the first design harder to increase or decrease in score than the later design. Or are the votes pretty even, meaning that the later designs average as many votes as the earlier ones? I guess what I am getting at is that would it be a good idea to post the designs the same way, but only open voting the last week or two? That way each design gets a fair comparison. I usually wait until the end of the contest and all designs are posted to vote, because I noticed I would see a design give it a grade, then have a shoe posted later that was better and if I gave the first design an 8 then I had to give the later a 9 in order to grade fairly. Or you could see the first design and think it is not that good and give it a 5, but all the remaining shoes are worse. I just think that if it is a true competition that you shouldn't be able to vote until all shoes are posted, that way you can truly gauge where each design places. I am not complaining about the way the competitions are run, just that this is something I have been wondering about for a while and felt pretty strongly about. I really feel that voting should not be open until all designs are posted. But that is just my opinion.

Paul I agree on that one. Easiest thing to do is wait till they're all posted, I don't vote until that cause there isnt anythin' to compare to.... |

All votes count the same. It really doesn't matter when you vote. If you already voted, you can always go back and update your vote later on when your opinions change once you've seen later candidates. |

It's is sad that some asian shoe companies fake and copy basketball shoes from other brands. While Li-Ning designs great and orignally looking shoes people might think they're also copied. And LEI WANG te soes you designed is far more better that copy. |

Oh, snap!!! Lei, that is indeed shameful. But all you can do is take it as a compliment. You should contact the company, tell them how much you and your lawyer feel honored by their use of your design, then give them your address and say "Here's where you can send (#) pairs in these sizes... ANGELO -
I got like 12 pair of basketball shoes, most of them i keep in the boxes. most of my kicks though are worn, i kept them all since i started playing basketball at the age of 7 when i got my first Air Jordan, the XII, where i never got the box unfortunatly. My precious is the XXI in the red italien suede, which is my most favourite of all Jordans, at least for now. I play ball in the shoe though, so i don´t have a deadstock new shoe anymore. I don´t have that much money to collect the kicks and not play in them.
my list:
Air Jordan XII
Air Jordan XXII
adidas KB8 II x2
adidas Kobetwo
RBK Answer V
RBK Answer VI
RBK Answer VII
AND1 Tai Chi
Nike Shox BB4
Nike Shox VC II
some old Nike Uptempo
i don´t know if you wanted to know that all in detail, but i thought i´d write it down to share with you.
BUT yeah i keep them in my boxes and use sprays and stuff to clean them and keep them nice

i'm with you on the no deadstocks, christopher. it's hard not to wear or play in any of them. that's what they're made for. i clean 'em with a toothbrush and dilluted dish soap. and i keep the boxes. lets see how this goes:
air jordan xi low ('00, white/red patent)
air jordan xiii (o.g., white/black/red)
air jordan viii (o.g., black/red/white)
air jordan xvi low (black/chrome)
air jordan v retro ('00, wht/blk/fire red)
lebron 2 (grey/royal/white)
air trainer high sc (obsidian/white)
dunk lo (black/red plaid)
air signature player (black)
air jet flight (black/zinc)
zoom flight turbine (navy/silver)
air blacksburg (black)
air max '97 (silver/lime)
nike free trail (black/purple)
air jaq (black/grey/white)
adidas attitude (wht/blue/blk)
adidas forum supreme (wht/red)
adidas stan smith (wht/fairway)
reebok pump fury (JPE)
ice cream boardflip (tan/brown/pink)
and some random vans, nikes and pumas and adidas. off the top of my head. damn. i've never actually written them down. this is since like '97...i know this isn't a whizzing contest, but angelo asked. if i only i had more cash... |

Nice Li-Nings, the first ones real nice reminds me of a pair of Nike's I have. The secound one does look like a T-MAc. The third one seems interesting with the ankle strap. Like that one too, has good ideas and nice colourway and they're all relatively cheap. Angelo, I only ggot into this whole "sneakerhead" thing maybe a year ago, not even. SO I dont have that many kicks. Wear them all, pretty much:
AJ 14 white/forest green
AJ 20 East(my favourite J)
AJ 16 OG
AJ 12 OG
Iverson 7,8 and want to pick up the 10
Plus I got a couple of designers Tommy Hilfiger's.
I wear them cause they're shoes, but clean them after each time I wear them usually. For the Jordans even the outsole's sometime. |

Good job on that one Arpith real nice concept, personally I really like the inspiration and the sketches, but that blue-purple rendering, I don't know... The other colourways ok though. The utsole reminds me too much about the LeBron 4s out sole, or any Nike Free's outsole. But overall seems like a nice marketable shoe. An other thing is the line of the lateral side, by the ankle, is seems unfinished. A question, whats this technology about? |

dunno how to post pics (not a comp whiz).. but just compare the AJ22 pics on niketalk.com with petrie's design on this site...
maybe petrie had some say as to how the AJ22 turned out..

i guess you could look at it look that, it might bring some happiness to some for a lil' while and maybe that in and of itself is enough to make it worth doing but from their perspective one might say handing them shoes amidst all they lack might be insulting; not having sneakers is the least of their worries...think about it you are hungry, you do not have adequate shelter, or clean water to drink, or make enough money to feed your family, and some (knockoff) shoes are going to cause them to jump for joy?
after all, the problems across the globe with inequity & poverty are not going to be solved by nations just dropping off our unwanted goods; just something to think about... |

I gotta ask you guys something:
Everytime I´m walking on the street, go shopping or at University I have to look at peoples shoes.
When I see some hot ladies running around I first look at their face and then on their shoe and I think " My god how can such a hot chick run around in those ugly sneaker" or " she looks great in those and they really fit her"
I think shoes just tell you so much about somebody, well maybe it´s just me, but you gotta tell me if you got the same thing
Last week I saw the first girl here in Vienna rocking Air Jordans, she looked really great, but here kickz were even better, she was wearing the XXI, all white with silver. There is nothing better than that:-

Yeah been there a couple of times, my Dad has a friend that lives there. I live in BUdapest, it aint far at all. Black yellow yeah those were real nice, although Carmelos and Kobe's PE'S were real nice also. Yeah sure post it up! About the last shoe you posted, I'M not sure if your tryin to create somethin new or just combining the shoes he wore and adding somethin fresh to it. Personally this red white shoe's real nice, but it looks like he 18, 21 and 21PE'S combined into one. But that aint a bad idea to combine the 12s, I think he played in 19s and lets say the Glove. hey christopher...if you have access to adobe illustrator, you could use the pen tool to trace over your sketches. that way, the lines will be cleaner and the colors will be crisper. i just figured it out in the last week and a half or so. no time to render with it, though...adios... |

Christoph your pics aint workin, at least not for me... Sure I have msn, add me on, johnnyszabo@yahoo.com. About the photoshop I aint really the one who you should be askin, it aint my strongest quality. I'm just going to start to learn how to use it, one of my friends is goin to give me a couple of lessons. There is a tutorial on Michael Ditullo's website. I didn't really understand it, might want to check it out, www.michaelditullo.com. SO I'm just workin on sketching, sometimes markers for now, but sooner or later... Tim under LT who did you mean? I'm a big NFl fan but did you mean Tomlinson the San Diego RB? But nice shoe. A cool shoe after the Vick's and T.O's 13s. |

No it was just my PC a restart can do miracles. NIce shoe like the final rendering. I like how its mostly angular. A question, whats that square on the heel. Another thing I liked is the nose of the on one of those sketches. Yeah those will be most likely the final J's. Personally I'm impressed real nice on my opinion. One dought is the shape of the outsole under the heel, I'm curious how that's going to preform on the court. There are tons of close pics on kick-fiend.com |

people are gonna hate any jordan that comes out, just like they have for the last ten years...personally, i think this looks more like a real jordan shoe than the last 2. these aren't super-high tops. my pre-lease conclusion is that they're dopasaurus. rex. |

JS -- It's is a direct factory sample for Athletic Works, Wal-Mart's own brand. In addition, we also have Starter brand shoes. Starter does about 80 to 90% of their own design. We do the rest, mostly low-end/low-tech.
Many of our shoes, however, are also from "suppliers", none of which you'd recognize by name (they mostly go by initials... LJO, for example). I don't design for suppliers, only direct shoes from factory. But I am involved in the development of the overall line, i.e. the selection process from the vast number of shoes which suppliers send us.
Christoph -- Thanks for your comments. I don't know if they'll still accept your work, but I would just send it anyway. As a general rule for such a situation in life... many times it's better not to ask first. If it's something you want to do anyway, and no-one will get injured or harmed, go for it. You might be surprised how many doors it'll open for you. If you ask first if it's okay, you might be told "no", and have a door shut which might have remained open had you not asked. |

Ryan, do you know the pricing structure for that line of shoes? It looks good. Not to knock Walmart but that design looks almost too good for a Walmart brand. |

Hey, Ryan, it's really nice to see your work. I really appreciate you sharing your design with us.
I think I would go with option 'A', the blue accents sort of frame the shoe, and bring a nice contrast to the dominating white upper. The runner up would have to C, since the blue tone really brings out the contours of the sculpted midsole, whereas the white outsole pods keep the profile from looking too heavy.
Just my 2 kronas. |
