Does anyone know what the silver material in the forefoot area of this shoe is?

Ben, as I recall I think it was the same material as the bootie I dont know if it was attached to it though. |

I actually have a pair of the Black/Grey retro+'s but I can't figure out what the material is. It's not the same material as the bootie, I think it could be some 3M or metallic material but I just can't tell. |

i think it was designed so that it didn't crease...it is 3m, if i remember correctly. we needs to get a hold of eric avar. unless i'm nuts, i'm sure he designed it. |

I know that Avar has designed many kicks including the Huarache 2k4 and 2k5, but Im quite sure the only reason he has those original Huaraches on his shelf, is for reference. I know that Tinker did the OG huarache runners and cross trainers, which makes me believe he had to have done the basketball version. If anyone can clarify, please do so. I know in my sole provider book on the huarache page, they have a huarache sketch which is contributed by Tinker Hatfield according to the index. But that book does have errors. |

Thanks for the Replies all. After reading your comments and examining the shoe again I think it's some sort of woven 3M material. Stephen, I think your right about it preventing creasing, because I've had my pair for a good 5-6 months and their aren't any creases at all! |

Here was an idea I came up with during the Wade contest that I was going to work on for my Freestyle entry. The red portion is like a cage, which helps lock your foot down. The black is a synthetic leather and the white, I am thinking of changing that to a bootie. I was trying to come up with something light that could adequately lock down your foot. I really would appreciate any and all comments.

Steve: Full length cage? The foot needs to bend a little don't u think? also, perhaps you could change how you drew the laces...they go into the loops but they don't come out...know what I mean? |

Wayne - Thanks for the feedback. I was going for a cage similar to the old Presto series. I will re-draw with the laces going in the right direction, I know what you mean. I guess that will mean spacing the holes out a little more too. Thanks again. |

It's called Rbk Rhb (Reebok Rehab). The idea is that it's a trainer which one can wear with either of the two inserts that come with it. The Rhb insert is for use while in rehab after breaking/spraining/injuring an ankle. The post-Rhb insert is for use after rehab. When inserted into the main 'shell' it creates/completes a trainer that can be used just like any regular sneaker.
Before I put anything down on paper I had a list of problems this shoe's design would address:
1. Ability to accomodate an aircast/ace bandage/swollen foot that is healing after an accident.
2. Would help to prevent numbness in the injured foot. (It happened to me, my right foot isn't ticklish anymore!)
3. Would be able to convert to a regular trainer post-rehab, to make it worthwhile to purchase.

How the design addresses these problems:
1. The shoe is purchased in a three-piece package consisting of the main 'shell' and two inserts. The Rhb insert is constructed mainly of TPU straps (either lined or sandwiched in nylon, depending on the specific area) that are attached to a textured sole. On the medial and lateral sides are strategically embedded pieces of carbon fiber that provide stability without pressing on the ankle. The straps are velcro to allow the user to tighten or loosen the insert.
The main shell utilizes RbK's Pump technology in the forefoot, further allowing the user to customize the tight/looseness of the shoe according to his or her needs.
The heel area has a carbon fiber plate covered with padding that holds the heel securely yet allows for bulk in the heel area.
2. Each of the inserts has an attached textured insole to stimulate the sole and offset numbness than can occur gradually over the rehabilitation process.
3. The post-Rhb insert fits like a normal trainer (does not accomodate aircast/ace bandage). It is a (half) mesh bootie with leather logo overlays for support, and a translucent lace piece that laces to the upper of the main shell. It has a car |

Sarah: Thats a very interesting idea you got there. My only question is how does it actually adjust from being able to accomodate a bandaged / swollen foot to post rehab. I know from experience with a badly sprained ankle...it ballooned to almost 3 times the size...and I dont see your project working post rehab unless the outsoles and upper changed sizes significantly. Maybe Im reading it wrong?

hey rich-
there are two 'inserts'- the top one in the last picture i posted, consisting mainly of the red rbk logo is the one worn during rhb. it has two adjustable straps that can allow for very wide or less wide ankles (the width being increased by an aircast or ace bandage).
(keep in mind, this is for during rehab... not for right after you've broken your ankle where you don't wear any sort of foot wear for weeks; by this time the swelling /pain has gone down a bit but the foot still isn't 100%)
the second insert is just like the mid/heel region of any other shoe, and it velcros down to the inside of the outsole (and laces into it too).
i hope that makes it more clear! thanks so much for the comment |

Sarah – I first have to say that your illustration skills have improved immensely. I am really impressed with your presentation and the amount of thought you put into this project. Are you going to submit it for the freestyle competition? You should. The only thing I would look at would be to add some sort of heel support. I am not sure how to explain it, so I added a quick illustration. It may help hold the heel on better and give a little added support. Also, they would probably have to be sold in pairs, so that way once you were in the post rehabilitation stage you wouldn’t be left with one shoe and have to wear a different shoe on the other foot. Overall, I really like it, and keep up the good work. I will email you about the group comp in a few.

hey paul,
thanks so much. i took a lot of inspiration from michael ditullo's sketching style for the quicker sketches (from his website), so much thanks to him too!
i did submit it for the freestyle. it was an idea i had a while back and it's taken me a while to refine the idea and details. actually now that i re read rich's comments i have another idea for widening the sole, i'll try to get a sketch up asap.
...but it's like mark (miner) said, once you put your ideas out there, the new ones just flow in.
i didn't realize when i posted the description that some of it was cut off from the second post, here's the rest of it:
It has a carbon fiber plate in the heel for maximum support and a large medial and lateral piece that provides midfoot support.
The insole on both inserts velcroes down to the outsole main shell when inserted.
A pair of Rhb shoes comes with two main shells and two of each of the inserts, one for each foot. Additionally, the set comes with a Rhb package consisting of an ace bandage, a resistance band, and a specially designed two-chambered bone-shaped water bottle.
With RbK Rhb, one purchases not just a shoe, but an entire Rhb Regimen.
i actually did mean for the shoe to be sold as a pair, so you'd get six pieces.
paul, your sketch isn't showing up right now, but i'd really like to see what you're talking about! if you have the time please try to repost.
also, i got your email, thanks- i'll reply more via email
