it's going to be a great year...just read on sneakerfiles that nike's going to retro the clogposite. haven't been able to find a single pair on ebay in a minute. after the clogs, they need to retro the woven slip-ons and some MENS rifts, and they need to send 'em right to the outlets for $20 a pop, just like the good ole' days =) |
Jan-Maarten Lubberts (21)
| 10:38:00 AM Friday, January 09, 2009
Yeah, those clogposite's are really nice! But I think Nike and Jordan should stop that hybrid and retro thing. The whole sneaker and kicks scene gets boring. Nike and Jordan belong to evolutionice the kicks.
2 Weeks ago I was looking for some nice kicks in Amsterdam but I found non. Only ugly bored retro sneakers. Shops who mend to be selling sport shoes don't sell them anymore. :s
Oh and a happy new year by the way! |

crazy, i don't remember the actual clogposites, but i do remember the solo flight clogs that look nearly identical.
i used to love the outlets, i found some 97s on the hashwall a few years back, but not much since. red flight lites, but i was hoping for some split-up cdp jordans... |

yeah, the solo slides were cool too, but they didn't have the zoom air the clogs did. the outlets were like eastbay back in the day, wherein i look back and there was so much heat i passed up on.
jet flights for $20, samba rifts for $80, white/black/concord jordan xi's for $120 (b-grades), xvii mules.
it's so bad now though...either the employees swoop on the gems before they even hit the sales floor, or the manager of the store is selling in bulk to the chinese and japanese folks that flew out to america just to clean out the outlet (it happened at the jersey gardens nike outlet). |

the story is that it was inspired by a competitive runner sponsored by Jordan brand who has a prosthetic leg. The technology is supposed to help you to stuff faster, better and higher. My question is, "wasn't that the goal of EVERY Jordan before it?". It's also constructed like the aj23, in a sense that it's construction takes a greener approach and is more environmentally friendly.
The AJ 12 drew inspiration from a women's high heel shoe, but this one actually looks like one. What's the deal? How sturdy is that heel? What if it gets caught on something like the sidewalk or the stairs? It looks like a futuristic and feminine xiv. Good luck selling that for $190. I predict it hits the outlets faster than any other Jordan.
:::slow clap for mr mayden::: |
Jan-Maarten Lubberts (21)
| 1:40:00 PM Tuesday, January 13, 2009
I don't know about the Jordan's I think they are like good wine or some french cheese you gotto learn to love'em. Like the AJ2K9 the more you see them the better they get. If you look at all the details they are pretty nice(alltough I don't like the rear end...).
So, that's what I had to say...
Looking forward for the next theme! |

i think a lot of people feel the way you do about the new AJ, titus. i gathered that the heel is a new propulsion system, the part that was actually inspired by the prosthetic cheetah leg. i'm not nuts about the shoe myself, but i definitely have an appreciation for the design in concept.
air jordan flagships haven't been about casual/fashion, even though thats what they're mostly used for. performance first. for certain, it's out there, something that's not too new about J's. the satin, the marble-like midsole, the way there's always a part of the sole on the ground, some weird diamond thing on the ankle, i don't know. gimmickry? alienation? the future?
as a low-top dude on the court myself, i wouldn't get these. and yeah, i'm totally put off by the $190 price tag. that ain't cool...

i just realized that this is probably the first air jordan that doesn't draw inspiration from the man himself. i mean, it represents the idea and image of quality that has been connected to an air jordan, but there is no representation of jordan's personality, attributes, interests or lifestyle. |

Thanks for the story info there Titus! Give it some time, Jordan's I think are ahead of their time in terms of design, so it needs a little bit of patience. I find myself liking some designs that at first don't appeal to me. Well, I do hope that this is the same case. |

Hi all, have any one checked this site yet?

They show a press conference with MJ showing the "AIR JORDANs 2009", I didn´t even know about this shoe, the inspirational theme and used materials in the show fabrication are just amazing and unexpected, just as every AJ story is!
Enjoy!

Yo so check this out. Today I had a meeting with a company that sells shoes to lower end stores such as Charlotte Russe and I believe Wal-Mart ( not sure though )
They wanted me to come in as an intern to design womens shoes for them. A non paid internship, I might add. The jobs are pretty simple really. Store buyers want a shoe similar to Shoe A, you design around that and design a shoe that would meet a specific price point.
Now comes the question...lol
Should I even take it? I know that it might bring in some experience here or there. Due to me having a better insight on dealing with the factory and also working around price points, but will any of this experience help me get a foot in the door as far as designing for a bigger brand.
On the plus side, I get to work from home which means I dont have to quit my current job to take his job. Also I can use any designs I have come up with for my portfolio, I guess...
What do you guys think? |

Rich! If you ask me I'd take it right away! Well, we've got different situations though, it's not all the time that we get those kinds of opportunities here. I'll look at it as something like going through design school again, I'm speaking for myself of course. I'm getting jealous now. Good luck Rich! |

An internship where you work from home? this isnt an internship they want free work. The great thing about internships is you get to go see how things are in the mix and you are working with people who will help you improve. this situation seems to lack both of these qualities. Not to mention are you really going to use knock off designs in your portfolio. Id say unless you are really hurting for experience id pass. that is just my opinion but id love to hear how some of the others around here weigh in on this. |

Rich- Hmmm....Nick makes some good points. I find there are a lot of people out there who are shady about getting some free work done. Do you get to handle the pullovers and samples at all? What exactly are your duties? I think I have to agree with Nick based on what you are telling us so far. |

I have alot of sketch's on my portfolio. I am an inventor foremost, but footwear is fun to design and it will always need redesigning until we have to wear the one-peice space suit that comes with matching silicone boots. |

Does KG have a problem? Does the contest still exist?
if KG is dying... we all must make it alive again! why don't we launch another website for footwear-design contests?

Hey Guys, I would not say that KG is over remember we are the strong family that makes up KG. Maybe we can have our own Artist series for this month and have a theme of "KG what does it mean to you?" because im certain we can all appreciate it and have our own stories of inspiration we can draw on from launching careers to the sound advice we get from industry professionals and criticts from the kg fam. If the mods are down maybe they can do the judging or we all just judge each others on the day of the end of the theme its the least we can do just to show the ADMIN we appreciate them (until they come back :)...what do you guys think?

How are you going to set up the voting system? KG must set this up themselves to my knowledge. You don't just want to jump the chain of command. Whoever runs this site is really busy. Ever since Mr. Obama was voted for, this site stopped having monthly contests. I'm no detective but I think Obama used to run Kicksguide. Now he has to do more important things. Bottom line, I want to design shoes but I'll just fill up the sketch workshop until the next contest comes. I would like to win a monthly contest but only if its for real, yeah? |

@cristoph
DRC, Designers Roll Call, a thread at NikeTalk where there is a set theme, then anyone can just post their works for critiques and criticisms. Kind of Kicksguide without the total ranking and grading system. Please correct me if I'm wrong guys.
I realized just now how this site has been a lifesaver for me. The monthly design theme helps me to focus away from work when I'm at home and just draw, design and doodle. Not to mention the great opinions we get from other KGers. Guess you really don't know what you've got until it's gone. I hope all is fine Admin. Hard times, hard times. |

Im gonna miss KG. I know that I have learned a lot from the site. the site also reminds you of where you started. as I clicked on the site today the first shoe i ever entered was staring me in the face. I remember showing it off to everybody thinking it was the greatest, now that same drawing would never see the light of day. Hopefully the competitions will come back to help others break into the industry. |

I think that we could post our submission, then folks would comment on what they like and don't like about it, if it conveys the personality and/or attitude of the player it was designed for and if the rendo appeals to them. After the crit, they would a ore it from a 1 to a 10. This way, we don't get just scores, but also advice as to what may need improving. |
