| 2005 Artist Series Contest (January): Ferrari F430 Inspiration The new year kicks off with a twist... instead of a world class NBA player, the theme of 2005 will be kicked off by a new generation of Ferrari Modena. The name Ferrari is synonymous with power, performance, and speed. Likewise, we can expect the same out of a new world class basketball shoe. Due Date 1/19/05 |

| Pietro Pellicelli Moderator Artist Info Reply | 11:24:00 AM Wednesday, February 23, 2005 Thanks D, I was kindafeeling the same problem so as you may see in the sketches, I'm trying to use a "proportions format" to start the design. I start with a triangle and then modify it to become a shoe (I've seen cartoon designers making this to design human body parts such as feet, head and even normal objects)...I'm a beginner in this so it's difficult for me to keep the right proortions; for sure I will try your technique too to see what's best. It's important for me that you gave me a next step to work on, so thanks again...Ciaooo P |
| dwayne edwards (179 Reply | 9:51:00 AM Wednesday, February 23, 2005 Pietro- Thanks for stepping up to the challenge. Yeah see it looks good in Black and White and even better in color. P, you have a good design style. I think you need to practice on consistancy with your proportions. I noticed everytime you draw a shoe the shape of it is different. A perfect example of this is the 3 shoes you posted. They are all shaped differently. Your colored rendering has the best shape to it. Stick to that shape and everytime you do a new design overlay that sketch so you can get more consistant. Ade-I think you are at a stage that you should not be even thinking about if a shoe you designed can be manufactured. Don't get me wrong it is a good thing that you are but just have fun and think WAY outside of the box. You need to impress people with how far you can push it. To be honest with you Nike or Jordan are really not looking for people with average design skills. If you are preparing some stuff for us it has to blow us away. Convince us why we should hire you. Once you get a job you will have plenty of time to figure out how things are made but the same comment I had for P, also applies to you. Focus on your proportions and how the shoe is shaped. This is the 1 detail that everyone misses and once you get that right your shoes will automatically look better. Ask Tony, I have been drilling this into his head for about a year now and he has finally got it and guess what he also got a job. Ade, right now just create some crazy shit like you just left a Snoop Dog party. Tony- What up? Have you recovered from All Star? Hit me on my other email. D |

| dwayne edwards (179 Reply | 12:13:00 AM Wednesday, February 23, 2005 Hey guys I have'nt checked in for a while but it looks like more talent has graced this site since the last time I logged on. I am currently in Asia working on the AJXX1 and I thought I would see what's been going on. The majority of the stuff that I have seen looks really good but I would still ask you guys to focus less on your rendering/Photoshop skills (even thought that is important) but spend more time working through your design solutions. A good design in black and white will look much better than a bad design in color once they are both in color. I will try to check this site more often to lend my advice to those who are serious about becoming Footwear Designers because I truly believe some of you guys have talent and this industry needs fresh new talent. I just hope this contest is more about good design then who can make the best rendering. I tossed this challenge out the last time I posted on this site. If you think you are really that good post some Black and White designs without any rendering. Now you can add some shading to show depth but no color. D |
| Artur T. (4) Reply | 8:31:00 PM Sunday, February 20, 2005 Hey thanks Z. I forgot to mention it here, but it was in my official submission, the reason why the logo and overall shoe gets more attention at the heel. well it's because that's all the other team should see. :) |

Arthur: though it's simple and hyprflight-ish, i really like your shoe!... that "wing" on the side of the shoe really changes it up. i l ike it man. good job. |

Luvell: i havent' finished my design for this month's entry yet, but i hope to finish it by next sat. and be part of the competition. We'll see what the judges have to say ... ;D I guess its' been a while since i drew shoes and it's takn' time for me to get back into the grove of things. | zenith chance (117 Artist Info Reply | 2:52:00 AM Saturday, February 12, 2005 obviously it's my own opinion, but i can't imagine how Pietro's shoe is rating so low. I think it's one of the best lookn' shoes there. What makes the biggest impact on the votes that you guys give. Personally, the shoe has to look good. it doesn't matter if shoes are done in 3D, 2D, or straight up line art. if it dun look good, then it doesn't look good. Presentation is important too. and you always get extra point from me of your shoe doesn't have a big swoosh tossed on it. Infact, if it doesnt' look like a hyperflight or a foam, i'd give you a few points... what do y'all think?! |

| Pietro Pellicelli Moderator Artist Info Reply | 5:30:00 AM Friday, February 11, 2005 To Admin: how does this year contest work? I've seen the rules, but rating each rendering is different from voting just one...is voting coming after rating or the winner will be selected just from ratings? In this last case, it seems like you can rate different times each design, and not just once as it should be correct...pease, can you explain this point? Thanks in advance. #### About KGIII, I'm almost done witn the concept phase, I need to fix just a few details...My KG will be totally different from the KG2...otherwise the "2" are totally different from the "1" and more tech oriented; I'm trying to run in this direction enhancing even more the performance aspect...the keywords are "ribs" and "column" ...Ciaoooo |
