On the Edge of Love and Hate
Nike Shox VC III
The Nike Shox VC III features the latest in what Nike has to offer. Between the various playing style of our testers, this was a shoe bordering on the edge of love and hate. Three pairs, $450 and a medical bill later, we found out the true cost of the VC III can't be measured monetarily.

(Feb. 2004)

The Nike Shox VC III is one of the more controversial shoes we have tested to date. Love it or hate it, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to the VC3. Any recommendation from us would really depend upon your game and style of play. After 2 months of testing and 3 reviewers who participated in this highly anticipated Ultra-Luxury & Performance shoe, our conclusion may be a surprising contradiction to everything you think you know about these kicks.

Somewhere along its lone path to perfection, the Shox VC model line stumbled and became what we now recognize: a guard's shoe whose porky dimensions is closer to Force than Flight. This is the result of 2 years with no competition and complacency. If you care to recall, the VC I had been an all-out high flying performance shoe that created a market segment of its own. The VC II's transformation from the 1st model was a mind boggling revolution. Full length, midsole-less Shox columns wowed every person who laid their eyes on the VC II for the first time. It graced the cover of Sole Provider and rightfully belonged. The VC III certainly has made incremental improvements from the previous generation, but it has also gained in weight, inflexibility and bulkiness. Although dubbed as a Flight Series model for high-flying guards and one of Nike's most technological advanced basketball shoe, the Shox VC3 falls short of its own lofty standards. The following review is divided into three sections for 3 distinct type of players.
