Nike Trailblazer
  6.52 / 10
The Nike Trailblazer is a lightweight yet durable trail running shoe that is designed to take on any conditions. The mesh upper and minimal leather overlays keep the shoe light, while the double-stitched tip and leather toe keep the shoe durable. Ventilation and comfort are provided by the mesh upper, perforated toe, and lightweight Nike Sphere lining. An external lace-loop system with a metal eyelet at the apex provides excellent fit. A semi-transparent TPU heel counter and TPU shank work to provide stability and support on uneven terrain. Traction is provided by a durable rubber outsole with large lugs and grooves. A Max Air unit in the heel and Zoom Air units in the forefoot work to provide cushioning. Pull-loops on the heel and tongue alow for ease of entry. Inspiration for the shoe was taken from off-road tires and the "blazes" on trees that mark trails. Also attached are the sketches involved in the design process and tech.

Nike Positive
  8.07 / 10
The Nike Positive is their extension. The only thing that is in between them and the hardwood. The Positive is everything they need to perform and last. A shoe that is meant solely for the court and nothing else. The extension starts with the bootie. The bootie acts as the tendon of their foot. Constructed out of a combination of mesh and lycra that hugs the foot. The lycra allows a high amount of stretch as the foot flexes but retracts to keep the foot from over extending. The mesh allows it all to breathe. Holding all this together is a Graphite Shell. The Bootie and Graphite Shell function together like tendon and muscle. The asymmetrical design of the graphite allows the bootie to flex; its structure holds the bootie in place. To keep the structure from being too rigid the graphite has molded sipes to allow natural motion. It allows the shoe to remain lace less by locking the foot down and applying pressure in key areas in the tongue and quarter of the medial of the shoe. Externally the Nike Positive features a skin of Foampoiste to hold the structure together. The Foamposite shell holds all of the anatomy together acting as skin holding the bootie and graphite in place. The shell features molded sipes to aide in flexibility. The Nike Positive is the ultimate extension of the body. The Nike Positive is the Baller. Click here for inspiration and more details.

September 2007 - Freestyle 2007 II
Ninety7
  5.94 / 10
My entry for October is a shoe targeted at preventing ankle sprains. Ankle sprains are the most common recreational sports injuries, and the most often sprained ligament in the ankle is the ATFL (anterior talo-fibular ligament) - which accounts for about 80% of ankle sprains. Studies have shown ankle bracing to be extremely effective in preventing sprains, so I began by using techniques from ankle braces. The cut of the shoe is significantly higher than most current footwear (the top of the shoe being roughly 6-7 inches off the ground). There is a full length mesh bootie, and around the ankle area there is a non-stretch vinyl for a basic level of support. There is also an ankle strap which runs across the front of the ankle to keep the laces secure, and provide additional support. The two straps (one lateral, and one medial) act as support for the ATFL. When the foot is in a resting position there is no tension, but as the foot moves in a way that stretches the ATFL, the strap pulls with increasing force as the amount increases (a strong elastic-type material is hidden by the green portion). It runs underneath the foot, much as athletic tape does when the ankle is taped. An internal heel-counter is hidden, but also provides support. Aesthetically, the shoe is meant to appear medical and/or supportive. A variety of materials and strong asymmetry are also themes of the shoe.

Nike GL 2008
  7.45 / 10
The Nike GL 2008 is a pair of sprint spikes for the 100-400 meters sprinters. Letters GL stand for Golden League, which is the most famous world athletics tour staged by the International Association of Athletics Federations IAAF. The shoe is mainly inspired by the jackpot of the Golden League, one million dollars in gold. The distingushing feature of Nike GL 2008 is the six mini-shox on the forefoot hidden beneath those spikes and a novel cushion system on the heel. Please view the inspiration/details and additional colorways.

Hardman's N.G.U.
  7.28 / 10
Mr. Tony Hardman, has helped me a lot along these years and still provides great contribution to this site and to young passionate designers needing help. Even if I've never met him, I can consider him a big friend, so this is my way to say thank you Tony! N.G.U. (Never Give Up, and a smile in the "U") shoe is thought as super light weight basketball shoe ready for year 2012. The main feature of the N.U.G. is the "Ubiq Soq" which incorporates the functions of the upper, of the padding and of the midsole in a unique structure. In fact, a 3 dimensional carbon-composite wireframe runs inside the squared cells matrix that creates the ubiq soq, providing just the proper amount of support where needed. The wireframe is covered by a specific padding layer with different thicknesses in order to provide the necessary amount of protection in each area of the foot. The lacing system also runs through the matrix along a specific circuit along the foot surface, allowing the user to adjust the fit just working on the nylon lace tension. The midsole is injected at the bottom of the sock (or soq, which is more cool...) to improve support. Transparent thermoplastic support runs from the bottom of the foot to join the heel, acting both as a medial support and as a heel cradle. Synthetic leather panel provides aerodynamic look while protecting the inner soq from scuff and hits during the game. The rubber outsole is inspired by road motorcycling tyres to lend optimal grip while having a super aggressive look. You can also see key development sketches, presented like a "Hardman's" brand time machine.
