RYAN HOLLER Wednesday, May 04, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike Zoom Foamposite
7.19 / 10 When Ryan thinks of Alphaproject, he first thought of Jason Petrie's well-thought approach to combining futuristic and organic forms in a yet practical design. That's what Ryan's trying to do here, using familiar Nike technology: Foamposite, Zoom Air, carbon fiber shank plate, Huarache-esque ankle support. Performance-wise, he designed, as always, a shoe in which he'd want to play in. The shoe is designed to bend where flexibility is needed, be rigid where support is required, and allow the foot to breath throughout all areas of the shoe.

LEI WANG Tuesday, May 03, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Reebok Ming Dynasty
5.79 / 10 The Rbk Ming Dynasty was Lei's first design after seeing Alphaproject's work. Inspired by his strong personal style, Lei's work is also an unique piece of work that is different from anything else on the market. The design is based on the color and symbolism of Chinese opera mask The original character of the mask is also named "Yao", who was a brave warrior in Han Dynasty. An unique combination of traditional Chinese culture and contemporary athletic footwear design. The design perfectly represents Yao Ming's identity. If you look from the top of the shoe, you will see a MASK.

ZENITH CHANCE Sunday, May 01, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike Shox Alphaproject
6.98 / 10 This is an actual shoe that Jason Petrie inspired. Zen had a brief email conversation with the man and found the following:
- fav shoes: jordan 3, air trainer 3
- fav products: FA-22 fighter jet
- School : West Charlotte Lions- maroon/gold
So Zen did hisbest to creat a shoe for the man following some of his guidelines. The shoe has a soft upper, and a foam safari print. Since JP currently plays in shox, Zen chose to use that technology for the shoe.

NGANGA VILLA ISMAËL Friday, April 29, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike Air Jordan Alphaproject
6.61 / 10 This shoe is design only for girls who used to play street basketball - a phenomenon Isma noticed all around Paris, France for example. In terms of design, he took the inspiration from the retro design of Alphaproject's Air Jordan 1 Evolution. He liked the shoe for its simplicity as well as the glamour that portrays a modern classic luxury shoe. Isma mixed all of those ideas with the actual women street fashion where the most hype shoes are boots. The result is high top street sneaker worn as a fashion boot while practicing sports. Remember when Mariah wore the retro Chicago Bulls jersey-turned-into-a-dress during the All-Star game? This is Isma's version of the shoes.

April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike TBTF
7.22 / 10 Ventis's goal was to choose a loobster for his inspiration. He called the shoe "TBTF" , coming from what Alphaproject meant to him and what this shoe is about - "Think Forward-Tight Bacward ". It uses a special lace system which is coming from under the sole and ties at the back of the shoe. It also uses an air max system at the heel which is connected with the shoe with something like a spring connectors at both sides of the foot. This "connectors" enables the position of the laces which comes from the underside of the shoe. It's a part of the lobster inspiration, something like walking backward .

PIETRO PELLICELLI Wednesday, April 27, 2005
 April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike ZOOX15
7.41 / 10 Pietro's shoe is totally designed around the "ZOOX" (read ZOO-OX) technology. From an ideal point it's a combination between Zoom and Shox, in the way that its elements are in a scale factor that stays just in the middle of microscopic Zoom elements and macroscopic Shox columns, to avoid downsides of Zoom in the heel area (easy flattening)and of the Shox in the forefoot (low court feel), while keeping all the advantages of the two systems. The shape of ZOOX is a series of plans placed to create triangles, since triangle allows maximum rigidity and minimum weight. Following this, the shoe style was inspired by steel structures, just like Tour Eiffel or Golden Gate Bridge, as can be seen in the lightweight reinforced syntetic leather panels placed in the upper. The lacing system is hidden by a wing shaped lace cover that is fixed with small velcro strap.

KRYDO DESIGN Tuesday, April 26, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike Shox Alpha
6.29 / 10 Krydo has showed that he can consistenly make the Finalists. This minimalistic design just squeezes and is effective in portraying it's Alphaproject roots. However, by seeing Krydo's past works, this rendering all but leaves us waiting for more... something's missing here: perhaps a little more texture or details?

ARSEN ROCK Monday, April 25, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Puma BlackSpades
5.23 / 10 Apparently, when Arsen Rock meets Alphaproject, this ARSROCKSPACECRAFT is the result. The Puma BlackSpades Jack High Basketball definitely reflects Arsen's style but also serves more of a casual shoe than hoops.

WAYNE RUSSELL Sunday, April 24, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Air Zoom Prodigy
7.39 / 10 Wayne's been around the Artist Series for over a year now and we really feel this is his best submission to date. He was inspired by Alphaproject's ability to think. In this rendering, Wayne's pencil sketches shines through in the finished product. The lines are graceful and clearly defines the intended object. Each element of the shoe is aesthetically appealing w/out overshadowing any other part of the shoe. Finally, there's no need for over-photoshopping to cover up any flaws here. This is pound for pound one of the best thoughtout 2D design from head to toe this month.

PLAMEN PETROV Saturday, April 23, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | AP Posite
6.88 / 10 Plamen returns from a year long absence with an inspiration that every baller has experienced one time or another. The Nike AP Posite is a new generation highly ankle-protective shoe. The shoe includes air bags that are incorporated in the lateral side. It uses the impact protection capacity of the air bags incorporated in steering wheels of automobiles. The idea is to use air pocket to prevent or in worst cases to soften the sprain caused from landing on somebody's foot. When the bad landing occures, the shoe which is supplied with sensors in the front lateral and the central medial sides, reacts by inflating with pyro cartridge the air pocket. The time for reaction in automobiles is in some miliseconds so Plamen thinks that it will be fast enough to prevent or soften injuries. The volume of the pocket must be conformed with the size of shoes that the player wears-to react adequate it must be a little larger than the distance from toes to heel. The "AP" in the name AP Posite means "Air Pocket" or "Alpha Project". The only issue we have with this outlandish idea is what happens if there's a false alarm? It'd be a bit embarrassing to have air bags dragging around the court.

SINDRI SIGURDSSON Friday, April 22, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike Air Zoom JP
7.33 / 10 The Nike Air Zoom JP is signals the return of the super high top, the support structure is made from Pebax material with integrated crystal structure. This state of the art material can be tuned to give maximum stability where you need support and flexibility where you need movement by varying the monomeric block types and ratios. Sindri looked at Jason's old work and the main inspiration he took from him were the high tech materials he used and the flashy, yet clean design, topped with the classic "pointy toe" shape.

YUBO GONG Thursday, April 21, 2005
April 2005 - Alphaproject: Inspired | Nike Shox HyperDrive
6.70 / 10 Yubo's rendeirng was inpired mostly by Alphaproject's clean, flowing lines, a sleek feel to the shoe, and something unique that you can't quite put your finger on. The s-shox (shear-shox) technology used in this shoe is inspired by the shape of the shox used in AP's VC. S-Shox is a combination of low density scilicone rubber interlaced in areas of high density foam. The scilicone allows the colums to compress and shear while foam keeps the responsiveness and stability in the cushioning. The idea is to reduce the weight and rigidity of the shox system, making them viable for even the lightest of streaking guards like Nash and Boykins. The shoe comes with a removable ankle strap for support when necessary.
